To control costs, we retained and painted the existing cabinets rather than replacing them. New countertops refreshed the room, while extending the counter created more usable prep space and additional seating. We added an island-style seating area and fully stocked the kitchen with cookware, dishes, small appliances and everyday essentials so it was ready for guests from day one.
The original living and kitchen areas felt closed off and dated. We removed a nonfunctional, glassless pass-through between the kitchen and living room. It served no practical purpose and took up valuable counter space. We also shortened the wall between the kitchen and the dining and sitting area, opening the sight lines and improving the flow between the spaces. Fresh paint, updated lighting and lighter furnishings brightened the room and created a more inviting place for guests to gather.
The original primary suite lacked storage, function and privacy. The shower sat awkwardly in the middle of the space, the bathroom had no door, and the bedroom needed a functional closet. We added a closet, reconfigured and enlarged the shower with both a rainfall showerhead and a traditional showerhead, and installed a bathroom door for privacy. We removed the old closet doors in the bathroom and painted the existing brickwork to create a distinctive backdrop for the vanity and mirrors. New fixtures, paint and furnishings completed the update, and a new exterior door now opens to a private patio seating area for morning coffee or evening drinks.
